Accreditation

  • Updated 14.3.2012

Right to participate

The games are open to students and former students (graduated in 2011) of higher educational institutions all over the world. Participants represent their own university or college. In team sports a team must consist of students or former students of one and the same university or college. There is no age limit for the participants. The organizers have a right to accord special permissions to participate.

Team accreditation procedure and payments

Immediately after arriving in Otaniemi, the Team Leader/ Head of Delegation should go to the Competition Center for accreditation. Only the Team Leader/ Head of Delegation should enter the Competition Center, there is no need for the whole team to be present. If the team has no official team leader, one of the athletes can act as a team leader.

The team leader must first check in to the Payments desk and make sure all the payments of the team are in order. Payments of the whole team must be made beforehand to insure the participation of all the team members. The receipt of the payment must be shown to the organizers when arriving to the Competition Center for the first time. The daily package begins from an evening meal and ends to a lunch.

If asked, team leaders must be able to show, in writing, that all the participants in their team are students/ have graduated in 2011/2012 and thus have a right to participate. In practise, students should have a student card or other certification stating their student status or date of graduation.

If the accreditation card gets lost, the price of the new card is 5 EUR. Athletes must carry their accreditation cards fully visible at all times. The athletes are not allowed to take part in the competitions without their accreditation cards. Only accredited persons entitled to meals and floor lodging are allowed to enter the Accommodation Center. For teams or other persons who arrive at other times, the initial accreditation will be done right away in the next morning. If the teams inform the organizers beforehand the accreditation can be organized at any time and place (for example for teams arriving during the night and staying at the hotel).

Withdrawal from the competitions

The participants are allowed to withdraw from a contest. However, the participation fees are not returned before the end of the games. They are returned afterwards only when the athlete has a medical certificate (in English or in Finnish) and the organizing committee handles the cases only after the competition.
