SELL Games history and facts
XXVIII SELL Student Games 2012 event, familiarly known as SELL Games, brings domestic and international university students to compete in Otaniemi, Espoo, in May 2012. This will be one of the largest and most international sporting events in Finland.
History
In 1923, the student organisations of Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania established an extensive co-operation agreement, which resulted in the first regional student competition for the university students of the respective countries in Tartu, Estonia. The games became known as SELL Games according to first letters of the hosting countries (Suomi, Eesti, Latvija, Lietuva) in their respective languages. The competitions lasted until 1940 when the last winter games were held before the ties between the Baltic States were severed by the World War II. After the Baltic States became independent again, the competition tradition was re-established and the SELL Games were organised in 1998 in Tartu. The competition has been open to all university students around the world since then. The previous SELL Games in Finland were held in 2008 when Otaniemi hosted the competition. Finland is the hosting country in 2012 and the event will be held again in Otaniemi in Espoo. The hosts are Aalto University Student Union and Aalto University Sports Club.

The games are open to all higher education students and those who have graduated in 2011 all over the world. Participants represent their own university or college. 2) Similar outfits to the event
You can generate real team spirit by getting participants of the same school to wear a similar outfit! You can always ask for sponsors! Your outfit also advertises your school. Those in the similar outfit can recognise each other at the location and know who to cheer on. You can either get the outfit for yourself or the school, when they can be used for several years in a row.
3) Grants from your school or student union
You can ask for assistance either from your school or the student union. In recent years, many schools have supported the participants by paying the travel costs to the location or the entry fee of the participants.
4) SELL material in various events
SELL Games in various events: If sports affairs are presented in a student fair, get-together or similar events, you can bring SELL Games material with you (like the posters!). You can also request some enthusiastic team to give a presentation if they need more players, for example.
